I have similar problems compiling on my FreeBSD machine. I haven't had
a chance to figure out the problem. If you comment out the check from
configure, however, it will compile correctly.
Another problem I found when compiling on FreeBSD is you have to
be careful when compiling lib/g-wrap since the configure checks
whether rscheme is installed as "rs." "rs" is "reshape a data array"
in FreeBSD and will cause problems with the compile.
