is it possible that instead of multiplying share quantity by share price
during import, instead, dollar amount got multiplied by share price?

Did you 'export all' in quicken, or just one account? If you export only
one account, then the export has only that account, plus fractions of
other accounts that it tied to.

Maybe you can hand-edit the qif file to something small & simple that
reproduces the bug, and send that in?
