There are two versions of Gnucash in the same source tree - the
mo/lesstif version and the Gnome version. The gnome version has been
the focus of most development for some time and is currently more both
more featureful and probably less buggy as well. Hopefully a release
will of the gnome version will be made in the not-too-distant future,
but for now to get the latest gnome version you'll have to:

* download the latest CVS from cvs.gnucash.org

* get a copy of Dave Peticolas'
latest bigpatch by subscribing to the gnucash-patches
mailing list (or extracting it from the mailing archives at
  http://gnucash.org/gnucash-patches/January-2000).
The latest patch removes the dependancy on nana, so it's well
  worth the effort to obtain.

* uudecode and apply the patch, either with the "applypatch" script
or by reading the instructions in the patch file itself.

* Obtain and install some development headers, including
gnome-libs-devel (if you haven't compiled any gnome programs before)

* Run
  autoconf
./configure (with appropriate options, do ./configure --help for
more info)
  make gnome
make install (as root, if necessary)

However, I should make clear that you don't need to run the gnome
version - once you have the right lesstif, the lesstif version
will run fine.

What a strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
