This is my fault. I'm used to using bash which also supports that.
It's unfortunate that it's not a POSIXism because it's the only way I
know of to easily nest executions, non balancing quotes are why we
have a lot of the backslash headaches that we do. Oh well...
Dave, could you change that $() to a `` for me?
