I've been using Moneydance for a while now, but besides being somewhat
limited in reporting respects, it's also written in Java. Good for
portability, I guess (isn't that the buzz, anyhow? blech!). I've been
eagerly awaiting the maturation of something like gnucash (actually,
specifically gnucash). So far I've found it quite nice. I had some
issues with importing the QIF that MoneyDance generated, however. I
actually ended up having 2-3K more than I was supposed to!! This was
due to duplicate transactions, of course, and mainly on split ones
moving money between three bank accounts. When I wrote a check from one
account, for deposit to two other accounts, I naturally split it.
However, upon importing it to gnucash, the deposit side of the
transaction was duplicated--i.e., each recipient account had it's share
of the split duplicated, and attributed to an "Unspecified" account.
This made it really easy to find them, of course, but it probably
shouldn't happen in the first place.
AFAICT, the MoneyDance QIF file is a standard QIF. Below is a sample of
one of the transactions which was duplicated:

In this case, Checking showed two deposits for $500, and Savings showed
two deposits for $200. In both accounts, one of the deposits was
categorized as "Unspecified". This occurred for other transactions of
this type.
I guess others have had similar problems? It'll probably be a long time
before I have to import again, but I thought I'd mention this...
This program seems to work great. Kudos to the developers...
