Could you send me a backtrace? To get one, run
'gdb gnucash',
then, at the prompt, type
'r <filename to load>'
When you get the crash, type 'bt' and send me the output.
You are running on Solaris, right? What versions do you have of
gnome-libs
gtk+
guile
Also, do reports work for you?
