Wonderful! I too have been searching for that function since switching
from MS Money a few months ago. I think there might be a little problem with
it if you don't always have consecutive check numbers, though. For example, if
I start Gnucash and the first check in the account is 534, and then there are
some holes in the sequence and the last check is 600, if I start a new entry
and hit '+' I get check number 535, not 601. However if I first fill out check
601 by hand, and then hit + for the next check, it correctly shows 602. It
seems like the last check number is saved while the program is running but
doesn't remain across shutdowns. What I would expect would be that the + key
would always generate 1+the value of the highest-numbered check or maybe the
most recent check in the account.
While I'm writing, here's something else that might exist in Gnucash but I
haven't found yet. Is there a way to type in dollars and cents without typing
the decimal point? For example, I want to type "2000" and have it register as
"20.00", not as "2000". I haven't seen an option to turn that on and would be
willing to add that functionality if it doesn't currently exist.
Thanks again to everyone for creating such a great piece of software - I
really enjoy no longer rebooting to balance the checkbook.
