Thanks to Paul Tatham, Robert Merkel, and Robert Wackerbarth I've gotten
gnucash 1.4.1 running. I'm still a bit amazed at the number of packages
I had to install (7, including a couple more than once because the order
seemed to make a difference). And here I thought I had a relatively
complete SuSE installation! After this experience I would like to make
a plea to the developers to try, if possible, to reduce the number of
dependencies, are at least find a way to avoid having to always download
the lastest package (for instance, SuSE 6.3 had libjpeg.so.6.1, which
needed to be upgraded). I suspect that there will never be many users
of gnucash if it takes the typical user even a quarter of the effort it
took me. Just my two cents. Anyway, thanks again to those who gave me
all the good advice.
...Andy.
