We deliberately removed check printing from the 1.4.x series, as the
gnome-print library is still in somewhat of a state of flux, and we
have enough dependancies causing people grief already :)
Unfortunately, we forgot to remove the documentation pointing to the
check printing feature, and we apologise for the inconvenience that
this may have caused. This will be fixed in the upcoming 1.4.2
release (as well as several bug fixes).
Check printing will return in the 1.5.x development series of gnucash,
as will lots of more extensive printing capabilities.
