Did you make distclean; reconfigure and rebuild after changing
compilers?
yes

Did you rebuild all the dependencies, too?
no

but since gnucash seems reasonably well behaved (except for the same bus error that happened before the switch), I'm crossing my fingers. It looks like Fink may be getting close to making it reasonable to have my Fink tree compiled with gcc 4, but until they do, I'm not really likely to be able to get all the gnome components recompiled on my own.

I did compile g-wrap 1.9.6 outside my fink tree and used it (config at least puts the 1.9.6 files earlier in the -L list than the fink 1.3.4 versions), and I've had a couple other newer things outside fink as well (libofx, and aqbanking). I realize I'm tempting fate, but as long as things are behaving themselves, I figure I'll keep learning more details as things don't work for me.

BTW - this gnucash crash happens in the 1.8 tree as well. I always had trouble editing sx's -- so much that I gave up trying. I just deleted transactions and recreated new ones. I never got around to tracking down what was happening (this was very early in my gnucash experience, and I wasn't comfortable getting nasty messages about my data file being unavailable after a crash). It was mostly my not getting used to specifically Entering transactions before trying to leave an edit session dialog. At least in the normal register view the program asks if you want to enter the transaction before changing focus.
