It runs fine as an X program using Apple's X server without any change.
I (and others) have been running it that way for quite a while.
Getting all the prereqs installed is easier if you use fink to install
them, but once they are installed it's no harder to make on OSX than
anywhere else.
If you're talking about porting it to Aqua, that's a much bigger deal
and I don't think anyone is working on it.
