Perhaps the best thing to do is to keep lots support but disable the
automatic scrubbing of lots when you enter a transaction. You would
still be able to explicitly scrub lots using the lot viewer window, but
it wouldn't happen automatically. That's the way I've got my copy of
GnuCash built. I've been using it over the last few days to clean up
some old data and it's worked pretty well for this.
