Slib is pure scheme, so there's no compiling involved. You can just create the link in /usr/share/guile/1.8 and run the following: guile -c "(use-modules (ice-9 slib)) (require 'new-catalog)" That assumes, of course, that guile 1.8 is the first guile on the path... which is the one that gnucash would use as well.
