I am wondering how much work it would be to implement a "tag/label/
group" feature that I have seen on other applications such as Mint,
Quicken, GMail etc. The idea has been around for a while and the
pipework may already be in place within GnuCash.
Essentially the feature would allow the user to assign one or more
"tags/labels/groups" to a transaction and/or split. This feature would
be useful for searching and generating reports. For example a
transaction could be labelled as "Tax" or "Reimbursement" or both.
Then if you wanted to see which transactions are involved in taxes,
make a report showing transactions with the "tax" label.
The feature would affect many areas of gnucash, so I think
implementing it would be pretty major.
Also, I am offering some of my time to the gnucash team. What areas
could I help the most? I can program and I update documentation.
