You caught me.  I turned on VERP yesterday after receiving hundreds of
bounces from the password reminder mails.  VERP will allow the list to
better control bounces and determine when people's addresses become
invalid.

Yes, this is a permanent change.

As always, when looking at messages and trying to decide where to put
them you should use the List-Id header if it exists.  In particular, the
message you sent me has:

List-Id: GnuCash Software Design and Development Discussions
        <gnucash-devel.gnucash.org>

This header is *NOT* going to change, so you could key off that.
Similarly, the to/cc is not going to change, so you could key off that
as well.

Keying off the Sender is *always* problematic!
