For some reason, my Fedora system does know how to deal with ghelp system-wide. Even in thunderbird, ghelp:gnucash-help is recognized as a link I can click on. If I click on it, I'm asked which application to use to open the file. "Help" (the human name for yelp) is the default suggestion. And it does open the help file properly in this way (given I have manually adjusted the paths where the help files are installed, see bug 661705 [1]).

If I read your mail correctly, you have installed yelp on your system.

What happens if you use
yelp ghelp:gnucash-help
