Steve, You apparently didn't read my reply very carefully: > That will install all of the dependencies needed to build maint. Cannot find ICU means that you're trying to build master, which has some new dependencies, ICU, Boost, Googletest, and Googlemock. apt-get install boost-all-dev google-mock will also install icu-dev and Googletest . Since it seems to be a great effort for you to even work a build system, I've got a question for you. How much programming experience in what languages and what platforms do you have?
