yes and no.

You can run gnucash in a gnome2 environment, but you need to
keep the gnome-1.4 libraries around.

You cannot build gnucash againt the gnome-2.0 libraries, it will
only build with gnome-1.4.

If you keep both sets of libraries about, it will be fine.
