I think this discussion on IRC today was worth posting here for the records:

<CoolPops> Im trying to make gnucash work and when running it I am recieving
this error: <unnamed port>: slib:require unsupported feature format ... does
anyone have any ideas?
<benoitg> CoolPops: Never heard about that. Which version, what platform?
<CoolPops> 1.8.8 and I am running ArchLinux. I will tell you that my system is
based upon Gnome 2.4 and I compiled the required gnome 1.4 components into a
sep dir (/opt/gnome14).
<CoolPops> The compile of gnucash went just fine (after finding all it's
dependencies).
<CoolPops> The splash screen gets to utility-reports, that's when it quits.
<CoolPops> I dawe a full backtrace, do you think that would help?
<CoolPops> ....I mean: I have
<CoolPops> The error appears to be in iframe-url.scm on line 7 (require
'format)
<CoolPops> hum, I figured it out (kinda). format no longer exists in slib.
It's one of the FAQ's.
<CoolPops> What version of slib should I be using?
<benoitg> Checking
<CoolPops> benoitg, thanks.
<benoitg> My slib stuff appear to be part of guile-compat-1.4.1 and
umb-scheme-3.2
<benoitg> But you are not supposed to be fine with guile 1.6+, afaik
<CoolPops> hum. I'll do some more research. (google.com :)
<benoitg> Good luck
<CoolPops> benoitg, does the cvs copy (gnucash) build against 2.4 gnome?
<benoitg> CoolPops: the gnome 2 branch does, but many basic functionnality
doesn't run yet. There is still several months of work to do.
<CoolPops> benoitg, ok, I'll still hang with the 1.4 edition then, thank you
for your help.
benoitg is now known as benoitg-afknp

<CoolPops> benoitg, I installed version slib-2d6 and all works great. Put the
new v3 on and it breaks... so, incase anyone else wonders, 2d6 works 3 does
not (missing format.scm ... the author of slib doesn't like it for some
reason and removed it from newer releases)
