Maybe you could think of  online banking as syncronizing your gc data with the 
data from your bank.

The generc-importer and exporter framework might also be a good pointer for 
you. There is a document about it in cvs.

The gc generic importer framework is already being heavily used. As far as I 
know a exporting framework is not yet fully designed. (also see some prior 
posts about exporter)
