When gnucash saves a data file, it gets "backed up" automatically.
I'm not sure what you mean by a dat backup feature other than this.
I do know that Rob Browning's new text-based file format will have
built-in support for crash recovery by log entries, which is a Very
Nice Thing if you ask me.
