Since you haven’t actually said what you’re doing that’s hard to answer, and 
since you didn’t include a stack trace it’s hard to know why it crashed.

While we’re on the subject of stuff you’re doing wrong let’s add hijacking a 
thread. The subject says “GnuCash 2.7 on Windows” but you’re on an unspecified 
Linux distro.
