Those don’t sound like large files, so it sounds like there might be something wrong. Do they ALL hang, or only some of them?
I will admit that I am not one to advise on importing, as I don’t do it much. That being said, I would take a close look at the source files—especially the date fields, as GnuCash can be somewhat finicky around variably-formed dates.
