David,
I know how to extract that information.
My point is that it should be made readily available to a user ***from within
gnucash***.
This is especially true given that it is possible for F::Q to work in one
scenario (i.e., at the command line), but not the other. I will also note that
there are many instances where a user has multiple versions of F::Q on their
systems, with one version running at the command line, and the other in
gnucash.
So, really, for reliable debugging, you need to know exactly what gnucash
thinks it is using.

Documentation isn't the answer here, since F::Q is a separately maintained
project.

Some of that information is already available.  I know that the F::Q version
appears in the console if GnuCash is started from the command line.  There are
also instructions somewhere in the WIKI (I think) to run F::Q as a stand-alone.
Perhaps the answer is to have better documentation (which is dear to the
hearts of some of us ;-) )

Derek,

I did edit the environment file.

This experience makes it clear to me that it would be nice if Gnucash had some
way of showing F::Q information to the end user, like a screen showing the
version installed, and maybe having buttons to trigger the various gnc- scripts
and show the output. This would make debugging just a tad easier... (Note that
I am not asking for better error messages, which certainly would be nice, but
not likely, since finance quote isn't Gnucash).

Did you update the environment file again after the upgrade? The update
process overwrites that file.
