You do not need to get rid of it. Open Gnucash and close any warning messages you get. Then, inside Gnucash, use File > Open and double click on the line above the one you have highlighted in the attachment. I presume that double click works on a Mac in the file open dialog. If not then click it and then Open or similar. Note - very important - do it from *inside* gnucash after clearing any popups that appear when you open gnucash. If that does not work come back and tell us *exactly* what happened when you followed these instructions.
