Concerning the original post, if the installer explicitly tells you that you have to uninstall the older version, I don't think you can install two version of GnuCash in the same system. However, if it doesn't, then perhaps you can move your current old version to a different directory, and install the new version in the default directory. You can start GnuCash from both of these directories later. Please try this at your own risk.
