Alan, GnuCash, unlike many other computer programs, does not assume that users are perpetually connected to the Internet and holding their breath waiting for the latest Spam E-Mails or announcements of software updates. If you *are* waiting for the latest version of GnuCash, you can check https://www.gnucash.org/news.phtml. You can also check https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Release_Schedule for the approximate schedule for future releases, though that is not always followed rigorously.
