Colin,
The first part is the way the typeahead feature works: It filters the drop down
list to those accounts that contain the letters you've typed. It does recognize
your account separator so e.g. if you type "qui:bal" then Equity:Opening
Balances will be in the list.
It doesn't fill in the entry with the selection, but if you've typed enough so
that the top item in the list is the one you want then if you tab out it will
fill in with that one. Otherwise you can use the up and down arrows to select
an item from the drop down. Whatever is selected will be put in the entry when
you tab out.
The backspace problem is probably
