Transactions are ordered by when they were entered. (there might be a
few rules that break that in some registers)
You can use the NUM field to force a custom ordering. (if not otherwise
used for actual transaction Numbers)
Since GnuCash doesn't expose a time field for the entry, I use NUM for a
time stamp using 24-hr 4-digit times (with no separators—e.g., 0931
means "9:31 am") and append a "t" so I know it isn't a real transaction
number, thus, "0931t" is my entry.
The "t" is not sorted by GnuCash, it is just for my own reference. (the
sorting stops as soon as a non-numeric is encountered, which is why I
don't use ":" or other separators)
You can just as easily use "1,2,3, ..."

No, it's not the end of the world, but it would be a nice feature
request, if possible. I guess being able to do something similar in a
spreadsheet has me spoiled.
