Well, minimizing the page would mean I couldn't interact with it. In any case, it looks as though I might have got a bit ahead of myself. I restarted Gnucash, started the import process over and this time the screen was resizeable. I guess it was some kind of glitch. If it happens again I'll restart before finishing the import.
