Welcome to Gnucash and double entry accounting. Basically every txn has at least 2 splits, plus and minus that must sum to zero, i.e. +$2.34 and -$2.34 = $0.00. Paypal via your import has provided only 1 split for each txn and you have to tell the importer what the other side of the entry is - possibly Income : Sales : Paypal or some such? I don't use the importers but I understand if you make this association within the importer it learns as you go and will automagically match the other side of the txn account in future.
Since you're new to Gnucash and don't seem to understand what double entry accounting is you should read the tutorial on entering basic txns to get a better understanding of what's going on.
