Agreed, that should be in the core Documentation. But of course, someone is going to have to write it.

Maybe file a documentation bug for tracking?

I'd think too, that at least for now, a link in the Read.me included with each release to the upgrading procedure on the Wiki would be nice. (that doc covers 'installation' so I would expect to find 'upgrading' there too.)

OK, where is that documented? If the current version of GnuCash won't work
with older data file versions it should display an error message without
opening the file.
