But, as R Losey pointed out, that would take considerable development effort. Is there any actual benefit to switching to a 64-bit program, and is that benefit large enough to justify the development effort, even if all the needed libraries are available in 64-bit forms.
It seems to me that the original poster's argument in favor is that 32-bit programs have been around for a long time. While that's true, it doesn't seem to me like any reason to abandon them.
