AFAIK, certain dynamic configuration details such as which account register tabs are open, column widths in those account registers, and settings for reports which are left open are only updated when GnuCash is manually closed. I have proposed a button to manually save these details in *Bug 729889* <https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=729889>.
