There is another thread under a different topic that highlights the possibility of interoperability between files used with different releases that suggests that it may be possible to make a copy of a file used with release 5.10 or thereabouts and opening it with release 4.8, which might work. If I had a need to transfer a lot of transactions, I might try that. I was hoping for something along the line of David Cousens' suggestion of using a script or macro developed by someone with the knowledge and skill required to create it, or better yet, having an option in a future release to export transactions in an older csv format, if they meet whatever limitations that the older format could handle.
Thanks to David and Geoff. Other ideas are still welcome. Luckily, I only needed to transfer one transaction so I just rebuilt the transaction manually one field at a time with the clipboard.
