The point has been made in passing, but I want to emphasize it: you can have different views of different accounts (and GC will remember your choices). Since the Basic view works well for Tom's credit card account, he can keep that, but change the grocery account to Auto-Split or Transaction Journal. It's not necessary to change the default view in Edit » Preferences, though that may save time if the same view is wanted in all but a few accounts. Possibly Tom would be comfortable with Transaction Journal as his default view, but it's also possible to change the view for individual accounts. As often with software, experimenting will provide the best guidance. Again, I know this is nothing new for long-time users. But I want to make sure Tom knows he has two options, no just one.
