Like the other replies, I usually export or copy/paste a report, but if you want raw individual transactions the File > Export > Export active tab/Export all Transactions should work. Be careful when changing default settings as that can get you a mess if you don't know why you are changing them. The result should be a CSV file. (Comma Separated Values) Any spreadsheet app, including Excel can and should open that file just fine. If not, try from a blank spreadsheet and use the 'Insert Sheet from File' function which should bring up a dialog box for you to set the type of file, special number recognition (like dates), etc.
