For what it is worth...

I have been using Gnucash since 2011-01-01.
179 accounts
29,420 transactions
1,456,501 bytes

Best wishes,
Will

Hi, Chris! Welcome to GnuCash!

There's no fixed maximum file size. Various people have mentioned sizes
of several megabytes, with no noticeable degradation in performance. (My
main data file is about 1.3 MB and includes all transactions since
2017-12-31, about 11,000 of them.)

I'll let someone speak to maximum number of accounts, but I'd lay long
odds there is none. (The chart of accounts is stored in the same data
file as the transactions, so there's no reason I can think of why it
would need a fixed size limit.)
