I suspect this issue has already been addressed. If so, you can pick up
the fix prior to 5.14 by using a recent nightly build flatpack:

Hello,
Nearly every time I try to assign a line item as a payment, it crashes
and I have to reopen since I upgraded to this version on Fedora 43
gnucash-docs-5.13-1.fc43.noarch
gnucash-5.13-1.fc43.x86_64
Is there anything that can be done?
I go to an entry, click assign as payment or edit payment, and when I
choose what to assign to and click ok, it crashes.
