It is a setting in the OPTIONS menu item.
Click on OPTIONS in the menu bar. Then click on the DISPLAY tab.
Look for the "Parent account balances" drop down list. Sounds like you
may have "Do not show"
If you change this to "Calculate Subtotal" then you may want to change
the next line "Parent account subtotals" to "Do not show".
As a reminder, go through all the options on all the tabs to be sure you
have each option set up the way you want them. Experiment if you are
not sure.

Hi
I have been using Gnucash for many years for my personal bookkeeping.
I am on Linux Mint with Gnucash: Version: 5.5, Build ID:
5.5+(2023-12-16), Finance::Quote: 1.59
I have today tried to run an income statement which shows each Income and
Expense sub-account balance for the period But the Income and Expense
Parent account totals are showing as 0.00 rather than summing the
sub-account balances.
I'm sure I must be doing something wrong but I'm not sure what. The Account
structure seems to be fine with the sub-accounts showing the right
Parent, and in the report account selection I have the sub-accounts and the
Parent accounts (Income, and Expenses) highlighted for inclusion but in the
Income Statement the 'Income' and 'Expenses' parent accounts are showing
0.00 balance despite the sub-accounts showing balances.
The net income for the period is also showing as zero.
Any help very gratefully received.
Many thanks again
Paul
