Adrien, 

My guess aligns with yours as to why the rewrite was taking place, although it 
isn't clear to me why GnuCash would rewrite *every* register entry. 

The readme that I wrote at the github page includes a long explanation of my 
experience, findings, and the script's procedures. I'm not in the wiki editing 
business any more, so I leave it to others to add or modify content there.
