Jerry, as a lo-ooo-ng time Linux user, I suggest this way of backing up 
everything:

 I use PCLinuxOS, & love their support. But the method can be adapted to 
any Linux distro. (The free PCL mag is great too.) You can set the backup to 
run daily or weekly, etc too. (It is incremental, so keeps a backup of your 
home directory.) btw, I am not so far behind you, but still get involved 
in tech: mainly Home Assistant for my home energy control: BIG battery gets 
installed Friday.
