Wm,

My comment on not-accumulating splits was a hunch based on how I've seen it work, not from reading the code. (though I'm not beyond taking a peek eventually)

I'm also a bit more clear now on what Frank was after.

There is no drop-down for split memos, (which is what line-items are, or are analogous to) but they can and do auto-complete as you type, just like any split in a manual transaction. (which triggered my hunch above) It is also possible that the auto-complete code was simply also implemented for Business documents line-items and is completely unrelated to the corresponding register memos. (thinking more about how GnuCash is designed as 'sheets' with independent functionality, the behavior in question may have to be coded separately for each context, rather than inherited)

Either way, since these are not part of the Description auto-complete/fill code, there's no corresponding code to get a drop-down list.

Perhaps that could be an RFE: "add drop-down feature to Memo & Line-Item fields". ('Notes' field might be nice too for some folks) The Action field already has it, though it only shows you a hard-coded list that can't be user-edited. (you can type anything you want in the field though)

Regards,
Adrien

I'm having a play with a copy of an old book that used the Business functions but can't get Invoice entry to offer me an autocomplete list regardless of the Accumulate Splits setting, I just get the "start of field" completion and that seems to work across the entries table.  If it is working for you there must be something else that makes it work. Any clues?

database level: I'm wondering if it is something to do with the business document lines being stored in a different table (entries) to the accounting splits (splits) and the autocomplete only sees the splits table entries.
