This will be whatever the "logger" command on your system defaults to.
On my Linux system it defaults to user.notice.

This might not be appropriate for everyone. It depends on how
/etc/syslog.conf is set up.

I would have expect a "user-friendly" *NIX system to come configured so
that by default "logger" puts messages where they will be seen.

I do say in INSTALL.html that people should review everything in
gnudip.conf. And thre are comments in gnudip.conf. However, when I have
a moment I will add a point emphasizing that the values for logger and
sendmail should be reviewed.

INSTALL.html started out as a short checklist. Now it has grown into a
short (and not very good) *NIX "How To". Alas!
