Dear Jörg, yes, as it seems GnuDIP is not maintained over years now and i thought about more then once to overtake it - but i assumed there is no more interest in that project.
If you need any help within that project - i.e. specially in perl / CGI related programming - please let me know this. I tought too about a rewrite of the GUI / frontend and / or database backend. As i'm more a "frontend" expert it would be nice to work here together with someone who want to take the database backend part. I assume the current implementation did not suites the needs of larger DynDNS services (i.e. User management) and many DynDNS providers prefers to use SQLish DBs. Another idea could be to extend GnuDIP to a tool for a multiuser DNS zone management too (if some more users want to have it?). Until today it seems there is no OS tool which offer an easy DNS zone administration i.e. for DNS / ISP customers (except Usermin from the webmin project which has his own restrictions in such an application). I don't know if it could be wise to make a complete rewrite into a GnuDIP3 or -NG and how far a protocol extension could makes sense (i.e. addition of new security/crypto features). One negative point of the situation today is that the DynDNS opton of many router products just allows some more or less known hardcoded DynDNS providers without a generic GnuDIP config option which makes difficult to use GnuDIP services with them. This may come from the fact that GnuDIP is not very known anymore... So, from my part it would be nice if you overtake the project (and, if you want, add me to the devels when required/interested). If you want I can lock for them and get it runable.
