Thank you for your comments. I would really be interested in a better yet still portable and reliable way to find out the autogenerated primary key of a newly inserted record. On a side note, since appserver generates gnue_id primary keys for all tables, we don't have all these problems with oid's when we use appserver, at least. Thanks, Reinhard
