Was this issue ever resolved? I have similar issues attempting to compile gnugo 3.7.12 and the current ( Nov 2008 ) head of the development tree on Mac OS X 10.5.something, with both GCC 4.0.1 and 4.2 ( MacPort ).
Also, ./configure fails to find socket-related header files.
