That certainly counts as interesting runtime options. It turns out
that the problem comes from --experimental-owl-ext and also needs
--level 12 to be triggered.
I have pushed a workaround to the git repository,
https://savannah.gnu.org/git/?group=gnugo
but in general --experimental-owl-ext is a rather risky and not very
thoroughly tested option.
