for pete's sake! GnuGo is a work in progress, not a statue cast in stone; icGo is a serious proposal to improve GnuGo and bring it up to date.
ok, so you didn't look past the name, but honestly! The whole point of Gnu is people helping each other and sharing ideas as well as code, unless i have seriously misunderstood the original intention of its founder. it should be possible to recycle some of GnuGo's old code (comms, etc at least). and at the risk of belabouring the obvious, i wouldn't be asking for help if i had already done it, and of course i ask no copyright - again, i wouldn't have mentioned it here otherwise.
