Turns out once sed and find made it build locally it went through the buildservice without problems.
Checkout http://software.opensuse.org/search and type 'gnumed' If you are on SUSE you can use 1-click install @Jim , maybe we could link this in out Wiki somehow ? Next step will be to build packages for other distros except Debian which is taken care of by Andreas in an excellent fashion.
